Welcome to the Symphony support FAQ! > Known issues: folder scanning, song browsing and tags > Song folder scanning takes forever or CRASHES! Help!

We apologize for issues with scanning. Symphony implements a pretty intricate system for tracking songs and items (see question above for details). Also, we are using MANY different SDKs for decoding different song types. Despite our best efforts to test every scenario (between the 2 of us here), there is a nearly infinite number of scenarios for user music files and OS/software configurations. All this together may cause slow performance or even crashes, especially in large collections. We are working on some ways to resolve some of the issues with large collections. In the meantime here is the recommended workaround:

The easiest way to avoid these issues is to copy the files/folders you want into a "for Symphony" folder, and simply include that folder in the game. It should REALLY speed things up and get rid of most other issues. We understand that this is not ideal, but it is the best solution given the structure of how the game scans music (again see previous answer for details).

If there are still any crashes at this point, we would love to take a look at the offending files to see how we can fix the problem. If you can isolate the single file that is causing a crash, please contact us at support at emptyclipstudios.com with the subject line "Symphony crashing file" and the suspect file in attachment. (If there are any lawyers out there, we will use the file for diagnostics purposes then delete it!) We will try to reproduce the problem and hopefully fix any outstanding bugs!
